I woke up around 6:15 this morning to go for a walk with my mother-in-love who lives just down the street. As I stepped into the coolness of the morning, into the early wee-glimmer light, I heard the bells.
These pictures were taken this afternoon during the kid's nap. My husband works from home and graciously agreed to let me spend some time at the Abbey while the sun was still shining.

beautiful. i remember being there, years ago... thank you for sharing these pictures...
Gorgeous photos. (Oh, so sad, I can't read the blue and red words on the brown background. Must be my computer's way of showing the colors?)
Okay, so I'm on Firefox, and here's what I see... your profile info is in the main post box, and all your links are under the last post on the page (so your right sidebar is completely empty). Tell me what you see...
I should add that this template is soothing, like your picture and your style!
thanks for changing your template!! LOVE the new look and now look forward to going back and reading all that I have missed!! :)
I love the book "Baby Catcher" too...and I have Thomas Merton selections sitting on the back of my potty :)
Hi L.L--That is what I see as well. Strange! I can't get the template to display anything on the sidebar. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it:).
Aimee--
Thanks for coming back:). About Thomas Merton: a few years back (when I was pregnant with my daughter) I went to a Thomas Merton conference in Vancouver on a student scholarship. As part of it, I was blessed with a trip to
The Abbey of Gethsemane in Louisville. It was amazing to see where Merton lived and wrote and laughed and wrestled with God. His hermitage is beautiful and peaceful.
If you are evern in Kentucky, you should check it out!
I am so glad to know you are a fellow Merton reader. What are your favorites?
can you believe that I lived in Lexington, Kentucky for 3 years and never knew about it?? So Sad.
Another fave book is "The Hawk and the Dove" by Penelope Wilcock...have you read it? if not, you would adore it.
Aimee--
Yes...too bad! It kinda low profile in the area, so not a big surprise that you didn't naturally come across it. Maybe if you have a chance to visit old friends sometime...:)
Thanks for the great book recommendation. Looks like i have some summer reading to do!
